My Job at Muskingum's radio station!

I have known what I wanted to do with myself after high school since I was in 7th grade. I always wanted to major in radio/television. I got this idea from my mom who majored in the same thing at Xaiver University.
This was just something that I thought was interesting. When I came to Muskingum I think I was more interested in television. I was wrong I got involved with the radio station right off the bat when I saw them at the Activities Fair.
I got involved my first semester which was Fall of 2007. I took a one credit hour class with Dr. Lisa Marshall who is one awesome professor! Dr. Marshall is also my adviser. The class was a training class to learn how all the equipment works in the studio and also how to be a DJ. The class would be once a week in the evening. We were also assigned a DJ to shadow once a week. Within the first couple of weeks we were able to get on the air. It was a great class!
My first show I had out of training which would have been spring of 2008, I had a morning show with a partner. At the time our air shifts were 3 hours so this shift was from 6am-9am. I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON! but this girl talked me into it. Fall 2008 was my first show by myself and I was nervous.
The 2009-2011 school year I became apart of the Management Team as Traffic Director. Traffic Director is not what it sounds like. I don't direct the traffic at the station. What I did was I would schedule show promos and put PSA's into the system and schedule those to play. I also served as a leader for the rest of the staff. It was a great experience. This year I jumped back on the management team this semester as Underwriting Director. I go out to businesses to try and get giveaways or money in exchange for an underwriting message. Underwriting is sorta like a commercial but not really! WMCO is a non - commercial station therefore we do underwriting instead. Lets say we get a businesses such as Wally's Pizza. We can say their name, where they are located, what they have to offer and a telephone number. We CANNOT say to go there or that its the best. That is a big "no no" for us. We could get slammed by the FCC!

I can say that joining WMCO has been one of the best choices I have made here at Muskingum. It provides excellent skills for the future. Its also a second family to me. We are all so close!
